The Indie Rock Retirement Home presents: This Day Forward
Details: A metal fueled hardcore ruckus straight from Philly that ended up bottle rocketing into retirement.
Retired: They did not survive a change of music style shown on “In Response” and apparently got very disillusioned by the hardcore scene. Apparently the hardcore kids do not like a band that actually sings and carries a melody. Go slam dance yourself in front of a train, assholes.
Favorite Songs: The entire “In Response” album. Genius.
Last Seen: Either in Circa Survive or working with other Philly favorites Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer and Hot Cross.
Reunion show?: “Hey, it could happen”

This Day Forward retired and on to other things.

The Indie Rock Retirement Home presents: Botch.
Botch
Details: A Washington based Mathcore band that had two releases and was well known for very aggressive live shows.
Retired: After 9 years in 2002 with the show in 2006.
Favorite Songs: Hutton’s Great Heat Engine / Dali’s Praying Mantis
Last Seen: Out of the retirement home and playing in Minus the Bear, These Arms Are Snakes, and Russian Circles.
Reunion show: Very doubtful all the former members are quite busy. But I think most people now would prefer to see the newer bands born from Botch and some other Seattle retiree’s such as Kill Sadie and Shark’s Keep Moving. Most people just do not understand Mathcore, do you?

The Indie Rock Retirement Home presents: At the Drive-In.
At the Drive-in
Details: Call it progressive hardcore punk maybe but this band did for music in the 90’s what Zeppelin and Pink Floyd did in their days and that is saying a lot.
Retired: “You’re a robot, you’re a sheep.. BAAHHH!!” were probably the famous last words of Cedric as At the Drive-in played their last major show. The classic drugs + artistic differences brought these fellows in.
Favorite Songs: Cosmonaut / Sam Farraday likes Napoleon Solo.
Last Seen: Well the two sides of the ATDI coin were seen as Sparta (the alternative rock side) and The Mars Volta (the progressive side). Sparta has since called it quits and Jim Ward has gone solo (in the hardcore->progressive->folk musical direction) as the other members played our favorite retirement home game of “Musical bands”. The Mars Volta is still the number one soundtrack to current acid trips.
Reunion show: Let’s just say they are “talking” and I am keeping a few hundred dollars saved up for a plane ticket.
